教育部長吳茂昆閃電請辭，外傳是行政院長賴清德主動出手，要求吳提出辭呈，對此，行政院今（29）日回應，吳茂昆是自行請辭，絕非外傳的「被請辭」，盼外界勿自行猜測。

據了解，吳茂昆上周五確實有向行政院祕書長卓榮泰表達要向院長提出請辭，但何時向賴清德表達辭意？仍有待賴清德說明；教育部人員也說，事前完全不知部長要請辭，部長今天也照常上班，「看到新聞才知道部長請辭了」。

吳茂昆辭職聲明指出，他接下教育部長後，特定媒體即開始撲天蓋地且用不實的指控抹黑他，在野黨也極盡能事的羞辱他，對他人格造成嚴重汚蔑與羞辱；這些不實指控，已造成教育部同仁工作上不必要的困擾與負擔，更使行政院團隊受到傷害，幾經思量，絕對以最高的道德標準，向賴清德請辭獲准。

針對吳茂昆請辭的消息，民進黨立委吳思瑤表示，她很震驚且遺憾，教育是百年大計，教長一直更迭，不利於教育政策推動，立法院即將休會，盼內閣利用休會時間，在開議前慎選一個能順利推展教育政策的教長；民進黨團幹事長何欣純則說，吳茂昆上任後有很多想做的事，現在因為剛好在台大校長這件事情，做為教育部長必須面對，但種種壓力、對吳不公平的批評，造成吳請辭的原因。

國民黨發言人洪孟楷則說，吳茂昆辭職，凸顯蔡政府沒有大局，政治算計的施政，想當初4月吳茂昆上台時，行政院還信誓旦旦肯定其作為，沒想到41天就走人，證明心中沒有教育方針，只是為了拔管而來，如今拔管成真，更坐實了吳茂昆是蔡英文政府的「拔管」工具人。
